Campaign for Carolina Banners

For the celebration of the launch of the Campaign for Carolina, I was tasked with bedecking the campus in banners. I walked campus to choose the best locations and styles for banners on buildings and light poles and created a comprehensive implementation plan, including a detailed map for printing and placement. I worked with production companies, UNC Facilities Services, UNC Energy Services, and UNC Athletics to produce the banners, receive the authorization for each location on campus, and hang the banners in time for the campaign launch. In all, I designed and produced over 110 banners across the Carolina campus.

Building banners, these were placed between the columns of each of the four iconic buildings in Polk Place. The portraits used on South Building were chosen to represent the campaign priorities of Faculty & Scholarship and Students & the Educational Experience. The images chosen for Carroll Hall, Wilson Library, and Manning Hall were chosen to represent the schools and activities housed within.

Double-side light pole banners were hung on Skipper Bowles Drive near the Dean E. Smith Center, where the campaign gala took place, as well as along South Road and in the Pit at the heart of campus. These banners featured iconic campus locations; diverse portraits of students, faculty, and staff; campus life representing how Carolina is “for all that’s now, new, and next;” and the question for the viewer, “What are you for?”

Pennant light pole banners hung along Stadium Drive approaching Kenan Stadium and along E Cameron Avenue near the Old Well. These custom-shaped banners brought a celebratory feel to the opening weekend football game and other campus events.
